If you are currently in the US and have been legally admitted by US Immigration Authorities as a Tourist you can request the Department of Homeland Security to change your Non-Immigrant Status to F1 (student).

Attention: If you have any other type of Visa you can contact Target International Student Center to check if you are eligible to change your status.

You must request the Change of Status before your authorized stay (given to you when you entered the US the last time) expires. To check if your authorized stay has not expired, look at the stamp in your Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record).

It is recommended that the request for a Change of Status should be filed no more than a month before the expiration date of your authorized stay.
