Assembly Square

When completed and fully operational, Assembly Square will bring $15 million in new tax revenue (or approximately nine percent of the city's total 2006 budget) to the City of Somerville each year. This means additional funds to support our most vital public services and programs such as:

  • Public schools and educational programming for our children
  • Public safety services (police officers & firefighters)
  • Improvements to and maintenance of our public streets and roadways
  • Recreational programs for our children
  • Vibrant community arts events for all to enjoy
  • Initiatives to promote healthy lifestyles

A new urban village

Assembly Square will be an urban village where friends and family can work, play, gather, and relax all within a clean, modern neighborhood. Assembly Square will be a place that everyone can enjoy whether they are shopping, eating, exercising, working, or just enjoying a nice day.

Job Creations

Already, more than 500 new jobs have been created for local workers at the Assembly Square Marketplace. In the coming years, this viable commercial district will create thousands of new office, retail and professional jobs.

T-Convinient Access

Before a single shovel hit the ground, concerns regarding traffic tie-ups and congestion had been heard and properly addressed. Through the leadership of Representative Michael Capuano and a partnership with MBTA, a much-needed Assembly Square stop on the Orange Line will be created—shuttling workers, shoppers and residents to and from Somerville. With the ease of public transportation, Assembly Square will serve as a prime destination and a key gateway to the community.

Situated on the scenic banks of the Mystic River, Assembly Square will join green park space with a pedestrian esplanade and bike paths for recreational enthusiasts. Respecting the beauty of the natural surroundings is not just good for the environment; it's good for business and the entire community.
