International Students – F-1 (Student) Visa status
* Target International Student Center accepts student with all types of visas: F-1 Student Visa, B1/B2 Tourist visa, Visa waivers (VWP), J-1 Culture exchange visa and local students with no visa requirements.

Before Applying

Students interested in obtaining the Student Visa F-1 can only apply to the full time English Programs (minimum of 18 hours per week) Additionally, students must inform Target International Student Center the duration of their studies (in weeks) and when they would like to start their studies (month and year). This information is requested in the Application Form.

How To Apply

In order to apply for the F-1 student visa from abroad, a potential student (or their legal guardian if under the age of 18) should do the following:

  • Fill out and sign the Application for Admission Form provided
  • Fill out and sign the Certificate of Financial Support (if applicable)
  • Attach certification of financial support to the Certificate of Financial Support
  • Attach a copy of the identification page of the passport
  • Submit above documentation to Target International Student Center along with the Tuition and application fee of USD120.00

Acceptable certification of financial support: (One of the following)

  • A current personal bank statement or a notarized letter in English from the student's bank showing that the student has sufficient funds to pay for school, housing, food and any incidental expenses during his stay in the US. OR
  • Both a sponsorship letter/affidavit of support (in English) from the student's parents or other source of support (a relative, an employer, an American resident or citizen, etc) stating they will be responsible for the student's expenses during his stay at Target International Student Center, AND a bank statement (or notarized bank letter) verifying their financial ability to meet the student's needs. In the sponsorship letter, it should be clearly stated that the sponsor will cover all school and living expenses.

Notes:

  • The above documentation is required by the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) for the issuance of the I-20 form.
  • As the student will need to present the same financial documentation to the American Embassy or Consulate in his country of origin, Target International Student Center suggests that students send Target International Student Center only copies of the above listed financial documentation.
  • The student should contact the American consular office in his country of origin and inquire about their time frame to process the F-1 Student Visa. That information will help the student determine the time needed to process his documentation before classes start.
  • Students applying to an F-1 visa need to pay the I-901 SEVIS fee prior to their interview at the US Consular office. The fee is USD200.00 and may be paid online at www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/index.html. Target International Student Center may process the I-901 fee payment on behalf of the applicant. Check the appropriate box on the application form. There is no fee for this service.
  • Target International Student Center will not return any documentation or forms sent to the school for the processing of the I-20 form.
  • The Application Form, Certificate of Financial Support Form, copy of passport and financial certification and applicable fees may be faxed to 617-628-1278, scanned and emailed to registrar@targetschool.com or mailed to:

After thee Application is Processed

Target International Student Center will process the student's application in approximately five business days and send Target International Student Center Welcome Package.
*Student's appointees may pick up the Welcome Package at school and not pay the courier fee.
Upon receiving Target International Student Center Welcome Package

What to Bring to US Embassy/Consulate in your country:

  • Your I-20
  • Completed DS-158 and DS-156 non-immigrant visa application (forms available at embassy) with a photo of each person applying
  • Some applicants may be required to complete an additional form: DS-157
  • Your passport
  • Must be valid for at least 6 months longer than you plan to stay in the U.S.
  • Receipt for the visa processing fee
  • Original financial documents proving you have enough money to cover your tuition and living expenses during your time in the U.S.
  • One photograph 2 x 2 inches (50.8 x 50.8mm), showing full face, without head covering, against a light background as explained on the USCIS website.
  • Receipt or online proof of SEVIS Fee payment.
  • Acceptance Letter from Target International Student Center.
  • Embassy Letter from Target International Student Center.
  • Documents which show that you intend to return home after completing your studies in the U.S. (see below)

Examples of documents that can help prove that you plan to return to your home country:

  • Family
  • Copies of official documents proving family relationships and their residences
  • Letters from physicians explaining important medical conditions of your parents
  • Visa and Immigration History
  • Current and previous passports containing entry and exit stamps from your country and other countries
  • Other official documents indicating departure and return to your home country
  • Financial
  • Official papers proving property ownership
  • Copies of investment statements or certificates
  • Letter of financial statement from your bank or accountant
  • Employment
  • Letter from current employer stating you will resume your position with them when you return
  • Letter from prospective employer stating you will be offered a position when you return

The consular interview is a serious and formal event and the candidate must be respectful and dress formally. The interviewee must be prepared to answer the questions in a succinct and confident manner. The two most common questions are:

  • Why do you wish to study English in the USA when there are excellent English schools in your own country?
  • Why did you choose Boston for your English studies?
  • Why is it important for you to know English?
  • Do you intend to study another subject once you have finished your English program?
  • Which subject?
  • Why do you need English?
  • Talk about how experiencing American culture and interacting with many native speakers will help you to learn English more quickly.
  • Mention that some of the most advanced teaching methods and technical help in language learning can be found in the U.S.
  • Talk about your choice of English program
  • Show that you know about Target International Student Center.
  • Be able to explain why you chose this program.

Target International Student Center bears no responsibility for the student's failure to obtain the F-1 student visa.

Travel/Medical Insurance

Students must purchase medical insurance prior to leaving their country. Proof of insurance coverage must be submitted to Target International Student Center along with the course payment.

Public Holidays and Unforeseen Circumstances

There is no tuition refund as a result of classes missed due to unscheduled holidays, unforeseen circumstances or Acts of God. Target International Student Center will not be liable for being unable to render services that are impossible to supply for reasons that are beyond the control of Target International Student Center and its representatives.
