Important things you should know as a F1 Student

A student with a F-1 status has the following responsibilities to maintain their immigration status

  • Student must attend a minimum of 18 hours a week
  • Student must follow the academic requirements stated on "Target International Student Center Hand Book"
  • Make normal academic progress.
  • Student must submit payment for tuition on time.

Consequences of not being in good standing are:

  • Student fails to contact school DSO after receiving letters
  • Student is working on the US without Department of Homeland Security authorization
  • Attend authorized school.
  • Student fails to inform the school change of address to the within 10 days of the change
  • Whether the student has enrolled or failed to enroll at the school.
  • Academic or disciplinary actions taken due to criminal conviction.
  • Student fails to pay tuition

What are the consequences if a student fails to maintain status?

The student's record will be updated with SEVIS every term. Students who fail to maintain status lose the privileges of their student visa and become subject to deportation. Specific consequences may include denial of re-entry to the U.S., inability to move from undergraduate to graduate status, denial of requests for Practical Training, denial of requests to change visa status and possible denial of all future visa applications.

What will happen if student is terminated?

Student MUST leave United States Immediately

Taking Vacation during my studies

We recommend student to take vacation after completing their studies at Target International Student Center .If you want to take a vacation you must to get approval from admissions office. If student need to leave the country prior to their end date, student must submit request to Target International Student Center's admissions office.

Leaving the country with F-1 student Status

Student who changed their status to F-1 student will not be allowed to leave the country and return with the same I-20 form. Student must submit a new I-20 form and apply for student visa in their home countries.

Student who has F-1 student visa must inform Target International Student Center's student adviser (DSO) in order to get I-20 form signed. Please note that if you leave the country without DSO signature, you will not be allowed back to the United States with the same I-20.
